Riaan Cruywagen

Riaan Cruywagen is the most famous and synonymous Afrikaans news anchors in South Africa. Riaan was born on October 5, 1945 in Johannesburg. He started his career at the SABC in 1965, while he was studying journalism at the University of Stellenbosch. He did some program on the radio for ten years, until he was assigned to do the news on TV. Riaan was not the first Afrikaans anchor. It was Roelf Jacobs who first appeared on May 12, 1975. But, the news in South Africa first appeared on May 5, 1975, only in english. Riaan's first appearance was on November 26, 1975, and he was the news anchor ever since, even when television officially started on January 5, 1976. He also had a variety of co-anchors, including Marietta Kruger. News wasn't just his only favorite, he also did some children shows. He was the main cast member to voice as Haas Das on Haas Das se Nuuskas (Haas Das's News Box). He also voiced many characters on Liewe Heksie. He has covered the most important stories, like the years of Apartheid, September 11 attacks, natural disasters, and F.W. de Klerk's speech ending Apartheid, leading to the release of Nelson Mandela. He has been at the SABC, from the days when TV1 was for whites, and TV2, TV3, and TV4 (later CCV) were for blacks, to the transition to SABC1, SABC2, and SABC3. He has also appeared on a commercial in a jaccuzzi, and has made his youtube show "Awesomeness for Dummies". He will always be so popular.
