- It's official. On November 26, 2012, the South African news anchor, Riaan Cruywagen, will broadcast his final newscast of the SABC Afrikaans news service, on SABC 2. Riaan first started his career on November 26, 1975, when SABC was still television test transmissions. His first report was Breyten Breytenbach's sentencing to prison. He has missed the good old days of apartheid, when SABC was a state broadcaster, where TV1 was and all English and Afrikaans channel, targeted to the whites, and TV2, TV3, and TV4, were targeted to the blacks. Today, since 1996, SABC is a public broadcaster. That means TV1 is now SABC 2, and TV2, TV3, and TV4, all merged into SABC 1. There is another channel, called SABC 3. His final newscast will be on November 26, 2012. May god bless him.
